Paul Merson told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports that he was ‘shocked’ that Patrick Bamford was brought off when his side were losing 1-0 to Brighton on Saturday.
In the end, Leeds suffered a 2-0 defeat to Graham Potter’s men, with Bamford lasting only 60 minutes on the pitch before being replaced by Rodrigo.
It wasn’t the best of games for Leeds’ main man up top, who has been outstanding for large parts of the season, but that’s what happens when you set the bar so high.
Nonetheless, when Merson saw that Bamford was been taken off yesterday, with the game still in the balance, he issued this response.
“Bamford’s off for Rodrigo, which shocked me,” said Merson. “They need a goal and they brought off their top-scorer.
“I thought it was a bit of a surprise and considering they were losing.”

Given the result and performances Leeds have put in of late, against Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United, such a result can be accepted.
The job Marcelo Bielsa has done in Yorkshire, not just this season, but ever since he stepped foot into the door has been remarkable.
And given that their fellow promoted sides – Fulham and West Brom – might be heading back down, it just further emphasises the job Bielsa has done at Leeds.
