Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Michail Antonio has been full of praise for Joelinton.

The Brazilian has been absolutely fantastic in recent weeks, and he was at it again at the weekend as Newcastle faced West Ham.

Once again deployed in his newfound midfield role, Joelinton put in yet another commanding performance against an incredibly strong Hammers side.

Antonio says he was shocked by how good Joelinton was, claiming that he’s finally found his best position.

What’s been said?

Antonio had nothing but good things to say about Joelinton.

“You know who shocked me? who I am very impressed with? You paid what £40m for him as a number nine, and he’s now in the midfield, he went from number nine to out wide and then to the midfield and I think he’s found his position,” Antonio said.

Surprising

Antonio says he was shocked by Joelinton’s talents, and to be honest, we have been to.

Who would have predicted that, with all due respect, one of the worst strikers in the Premier League would go on to become a truly commanding midfielder? Certainly not us.

Eddie Howe has spotted something in the £40m man, and while he’s not quite lived up to his billing at Newcastle, he’s now one of the Magpies’ most important players – albeit in a different position.

Joelinton’s renaissance has been a joy to watch and it’s been one of the surprise stories of the season so far.
