Speculation is mounting that Aston Villa could sign Luis Suarez, having already brought Philippe Coutinho to the Midlands.
These are exciting times if you’re an Aston Villa supporter.
Manager Steven Gerrard clearly has major things planned at Villa Park and signing Suarez would be rather incredible – and it’s possible!
Earlier this week, Spanish football expert Alvaro Montero told Sky Sports News that a return to England and reunion with former Liverpool teammate Gerrard was a genuine option for the Atletico Madrid attacker, now 34.
It would be one hell of a story if Gerrard got the band back together even more at Aston Villa, having done brilliant things on the pitch alongside Suarez during their career at Anfield.
Interestingly, some supporters on Twitter have unearthed a 10-year old tweet from a certain Jack Grealish, praising the duo.
Here’s what the former Villa attacker tweeted back in 2012:
Linking up again?
Well, it’s a story that’d appeal to the romantics in football, no doubt. But does it make sense?
Unfortunately, no.
Bringing Coutinho back to the Premier League looks a masterstroke by the Aston Villa manager and we know that because he set up a goal and scored another against Manchester United on his debut last weekend.
However, Suarez is 34.
The Uruguayan made his name in England as a tenacious, speedy and terrier of a footballer who defences simply couldn’t live with.
But the truth is that he just cannot be that player anymore and the Aston Villa boss needs to tread carefully here.
