Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Athletic revealed that the Premier League are now considering a rule change.

What’s the story?

Well, after Arsenal faced widespread criticism for requesting a postponement of the north London derby, the Premier League are having a rethink.

After this weekend’s round of fixtures, The Athletic believe a meeting will be called for each Premier League club to discuss the way forward.

A winter break will commence until February 8th after this weekend, which the Premier League hope will be enough time to come to a conclusion.

So far this season, 21 games have been postponed.

As things stand, the rules state that a fixture will be postponed if one of the teams does not have 13 available outfield players, including one goalkeeper.

Tottenham fans can’t believe it

This wouldn’t be the first time a rule has been changed shortly after Tottenham were affected by it.

Back in 2012, fourth-placed Spurs saw their Champions League place snatched away after Chelsea won the competition, despite the Blues finishing fifth.

At the time, the rule meant that Chelsea would take the last available spot for English clubs, as they won the tournament – it has since been changed.

Then, the north Londoners saw a rule change regarding handball come into play in both the Champions League and also the Premier League.

After Moussa Sissoko’s armpit was adjudged to have handled the ball against Liverpool, UEFA introduced a change to the deliberate handball rules.

Then, when Andy Carroll headed the ball at Eric Dier’s arm from pointblank range in the Premier League last season – costing Spurs the three points in the last minute – the rule was changed.

You can understand why the Tottenham fans are getting a bit annoyed.

For now, let’s see what they’ve been saying about the news…
