Arsenal have been long-term admirers of the Sporting Lisbon ace, according to reports.

According to Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Sporting Lisbon ace Gelson Martins wants to terminate his current contract with the Portuguese club, opening the door to the possibility of Arsenal signing him on a free transfer this summer.

According to Portuguese media outlet O Jogo, new Gunners boss Unai Emery is keen to add the 23-year-old to his ranks at the Emirates this summer, although it was previously reported that it would take an offer of £52.7 million, in order to make a deal happen.

Italian publication Tutto Mercato Web now claim that the Portugal international is desperate to terminate his contract with Sporting, and that could be great news for Arsenal, considering the fact that they reportedly have just £50 million to spend this summer.

Martins is an exceptional talent, and his pace, technical ability and skill would undoubtedly help add a certain level of potency to the Gunners’ play in the final third.

Whilst Sporting will obviously fight tooth and nail to keep the winger contracted to the club, they could be forced into losing him for nothing, following a disruptive end to their campaign, which included an attack on their players from their own fans.
