Jordan Henderson has admitted that Liverpool were in ‘shock’ at Mateo Kovačić’s wondergoal for Chelsea on Sunday, as he told Premier League Productions (02/01/22 at 6:40 pm).

After sprinting into a 2-0 lead, Liverpool were pegged back by an outrageous volley from Kovačić that took the noise levels inside Stamford Bridge to another level, before Christian Pulisic levelled the scores before the break.

That wasn’t the only moment of magic Kovačić produced during the game because he was also showcasing his outstanding first touch, as he was also named Man of the Match.

Nonetheless, a point doesn’t suit either Liverpool or Thomas Tuchel’s men because of the ten-point lead Manchester City have opened up at the top of the Premier League table.

And Henderson made it clear that his Liverpool side didn’t perform well yesterday, as he admitted that Kovačić’s goal was a ‘fantastic finish’.

“Going 2-0 up, we would be disappointed at conceding two goals so quickly before the end of the first half,” said Henderson.

“I think if we can get to halftime, then you probably come out in the second half and you are in a better position.

“We were a little bit in shock with the set-piece and the first goal. Then the second goal is poor, from our point of view. I mean, the first one is a fantastic finish, to be fair.

“We didn’t play particularly well. But I think the lads showed heart to keep going and got a point, in the end.”

In normal circumstances, Liverpool securing a point in their title rivals backyard when they haven’t played well would be seen as a big positive.

But Manchester City have taken the game to the next level and are performing at such heights that it feels like dropped points.

Once again, it seems like Pep Guardiola will guide his team to 90+ points over the course of a Premier League campaign.

And previously, Jurgen Klopp’s side have only managed to match or beat them, so they are probably the only ones who can stop them… that’s probably!
