Tim Sherwood has sarcastically stated that ’Steven Gerrard will be delighted’ that Lucas Digne has now decided to turn up and perform for Aston Villa.
On Sunday, Unai Emery recorded a 3-1 win over Manchester United in his first game in charge of Villa, with Digne whipping in a stunning free-kick after ten minutes.
Not since the Christian Benteke days have Villa watched a player in Claret & Blue colours knock one into the top bins from a dead-ball situation.

Well, that wait was probably worth it because that goal also ended Villa’s 27-year wait to beat Manchester United on home soil in the Premier League.
That’s the perfect start for the new boss in the dugout, with outstanding performances across the pitch from the team, with honourable mentions to Jacob Ramsey, Tyrone Mings, Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey.
Sherwood thinks this will provide the Midlands side with the ‘confidence’ that they need and praised the Villa Park faithful for their support, as he told Premier League Productions.
“Wonderful start for Emery,” said Sherwood. “Digne, he’s back from injury and he found himself fit.
“Steven Gerrard will be delighted with that, wouldn’t he?! One of his signings has decided to all of a sudden play and bend one in from 30 yards with a free kick.
“They had a great start. Wonderful result and start for Emery. It’s got the fans, who are a magnificent group of supporters, he’s got them onside. They will get a lot of confidence from this.”

ROUND 2
Villa have won the first round against Man United and they will now be hoping to well and truly knock Erik ten Hag’s side out on Thursday night.
It’s pretty incredible because last season, Villa beat Man United at Old Trafford when Dean Smith was in charge, but they lost under Gerrard in the FA Cup and now it’s Emery’s turn in the EFL Cup.
This will become a tactical battle because ten Hag will change things up given the abject performance Man United produced.
But how should Emery roll the dice, should he throw up a surprise or stick with the same XI that produced their best 90-minute performance of the season?
