Sky Sports pundit Tim Sherwood has criticised Tottenham Hotspur central defender Cristian Romero while watching him in action against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa at Villa Park in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The former Tottenham manager has said on Sky Sports that Romero is a “liability”.
Sherwood was not impressed by how Romero gave away the free kick for the second goal that Villa scored on 72 minutes.
The Sky Sports pundit has said that the £165,000-a-week (Spotrac) central defender needs to stop making rash challenges.
Tim Sherwood on Cristian Romero for Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa
Sherwood said: “The free kick leading up to it, Ollie Watkins goes to get a straight ball off the midfield player, and Romero just comes through him.
“There is absolutely no reason why he should. He is a liability, this guy. I think he has got a lot of qualities, but he keeps making these rash challenges all over the place.”

Need to do better
In our view, Cristian Romero does need to cut out the mistakes that he makes, especially the way he goes into challenges.
We know that the Tottenham and Argentina international central defender is a very aggressive defender.
That is part of his game and makes him the brilliant defender that he is.
However, Romero needs to be clever about his challenges and needs to be calm on occasions.
The defender, who won the 2022 Qatar World Cup with Argentina, does make some really bad challengers and tackles.
Romero needs to change that.
