Tim Sherwood has told Sky Sports that he was surprised that Tottenham Hotspur let go of Nacer Chadli in the summer transfer window.

Chadli left Tottenham for Premier League rivals West Brom in the summer for a transfer fee reported by The Express & Star to be worth £13 million.

Sherwood worked with the Belgium international winger he was in charge of Spurs during the second half of the 2013-14 season.

The former Aston Villa manager has revealed that he was surprised that the North London outfit decided to part company with the 27-year-old winger in the summer transfer window.

Sherwood has also backed Chadli to score more than 10 goals in the Premier League for the Baggies this season.

“Nacer Chadli is a fantastic signing, Tony Pulis has done brilliantly to get him to the football club,” Sherwood told Sky Sports. “I think he’s a great signing for them, he gives them a little bit of guile.

“I had him at Tottenham, Nacer – he affects the football match, he can assist and he can score and I was very surprised that Tottenham let him go to be perfectly honest.”

“He will get 10-plus goals for West Brom,” added Sherwood. “They could be crucial for keeping them in the division.”

Chadli did relatively well during his time at Tottenham, but he could have done better and probably should have been more consistent.

The former Twente winger scored three goals and created 24 chances in 29 Premier League appearances for Spurs last season.

During the 2014-15 campaign, the Belgian scored 11 goals and created 41 chances in 35 league matches for Tottenham.
