Tim Sherwood has slammed Tyler Adams for seemingly giving up and getting sent off during Leeds United’s 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The former Tottenham boss thinks that Adams, who was shown a second yellow for a foul on Yves Bissouma in the 87th minute, had the attitude of a player that felt ‘I have done my job now and I am going to the World Cup’, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (12/11/22 at 4:45 pm).

It was an all-action affair in north London, with Leeds taking the lead on three occasions, yet heading back to Yorkshire empty-handed.

Jesse Marsch will be disappointed with the manner in which Leeds conceded their goals and he will now be without Adams when football returns after the break ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

“Adams has been sent off, it was a second yellow card,” said Sherwood. “Bissouma, who came on as a sub, has just burst past him.

“It’s a stupid tackle because he knows, as soon as he makes the tackle, he’s going to get sent off. He’s almost like ‘I have done my job now. We are out of this game and I am going to the World Cup’.

“It’s a poor decision from the kid. He gets himself sent off and he’s a really good player as well.”

ADAMS’ START AT LEEDS

The USA international came in at Leeds to replace star man and boyhood fan, Kalvin Phillips, who headed to Manchester City.

Despite filling big shoes, he has done pretty well in Yorkshire so far and made a strong start.

Leeds’ indifferent form probably hasn’t helped shine the light on the midfielder’s performances became he has deserved much more credit.

Either way, Adams now heads to Qatar where he will line up for the US against some familiar faces at the 2022 World Cup.

England and USA will lock horns on November 25 in what will be be a mouthwatering contest.
