Tim Sherwood has told the Midweek Review, which was broadcast on Optus Sports, that Tottenham Hotspur’s five attacking players all look like they had no idea what they were doing against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Tottenham brought on the likes of Carlos Vinicius, Lucas and Erik Lamela as they chased an equaliser against Brighton.
However, Spurs were unable to force their way past a stubborn Brighton backline, as they fell to a 1-0 defeat.
And Sherwood claims that Tottenham’s attacking players actually seemed clueless about their instructions on the night.
“I thought it was terrible, it was one of the worst Spurs performances I’ve seen in a long time,” the former Spurs boss said.
“It was as simple as taking Kane out and it all falls apart. It’s alright saying that I ended up with five attacking players on the pitch. Yeah, you did, but they were five attacking players with no idea what was asked of them.
“There was no interchanging of positions, no width in the full-backs, there was no creativity and they will have to find a different way.”
Tottenham’s attacking play did seem stifled without Harry Kane, and Mourinho’s side’s lack of offensive ideas is now becoming a concern.
Even with Kane in the side, Spurs had hardly been swashbuckling in recent times, but without him things went from bad to worse.
Mourinho is now facing serious questions at Tottenham, with many observers beginning to doubt if he is able to get a tune out of their attacking talents.
Spurs will next be in action tomorrow, when they take on Chelsea in the Premier League.
