In September last year, Teddy Sheringham compared Arsenal-linked star Declan Rice to Michael Carrick.
The Times first reported that Mikel Arteta’s side were interested in signing the £80 million-rated (The Athletic) midfielder.
The Evening Standard also claimed on Monday that Arsenal were ‘already working on’ a deal to sign Declan Rice next season, who has drawn comparisons to the great Michael Carrick by Teddy Sheringham.
Ultimately, the fact that a legend such as Sheringham feels the England international is in the mould of one of the country’s greatest defensive midfielders is great news from a Gunners perspective.
Considering Thomas Partey turns 30 in June, the Premier League leaders are future-proofing extremely smartly.
In addition, Partey remains extremely injury prone, and even this season, if he gets a knock, it could spell the end for the club’s burgeoning title hunt.
As a result, it would be brilliant news for Arsenal, if they sign Declan Rice and he resembles Michael Carrick to any degree, as stated by Teddy Sheringham.
After all, the club are clearly building towards hopefully having a side that can be considered a dynasty, in the same vein as both Manchester clubs under Sir Alex Ferguson and Pep Guardiola.
Teddy Sheringham compares Arsenal target Declan Rice to Michael Carrick Back in September 2021

Back in September 2021, Teddy Sheringham likened Arsenal-linked ace Declan Rice to Michael Carrick.
Initially, the Man United legend went on to break down his displays at Euro 2020, saying, “I thought Declan Rice was our outstanding player at Euro 2020. I was very disappointed when he got brought off in the final, it was the wrong decision.”
“We couldn’t retain possession when it was tough against the Italians, and he was one player who did retain possession.”
“He moved like a Rolls-Royce with the ball out of a problem and then found a pass after that. It’s invaluable to be able to do that and he showed what a top player he is.”
Sheringham concluded, as relayed by Sport Bible, “He’s a top player who will be going somewhere quite soon. He’s in the mould of Roy Keane and Michael Carrick, who were two top players, which you’ve got to have in the midfield for Manchester United.”
Arsenal will hope that if they do end up signing Declan Rice, he replicates Michael Carrick, as Teddy Sheringham sees similarities between the pair.
