The Newcastle midfielder has been linked with West Ham.

West Ham United’s squad is certainly in need of significant improvement and manager David Moyes will surely look to make some signings during this month’s transfer window.
Central midfield is an area where West Ham especially require reinforcements and they have recently been linked with a move for Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey, as reported by The Mirror.
While Shelvey possesses plenty of Premier League experience and has a strong connection with West Ham having played for their academy and supported them growing up, this isn’t a move that Moyes should pursue.

Shelvey is capable of producing impressive performances at times and has a good passing range, but he lacks discipline and can often lose his composure under pressure, which certainly wouldn’t be an ideal quality when battling to avoid relegation.
In the long term West Ham do require a replacement for Mark Noble, but Shelvey isn’t reliable enough and the Hammers would be better served by bringing in a player such as Bournemouth’s Harry Arter, who is a much more dependable presence.

The decisions that West Ham make in this transfer window will undoubtedly go a long way towards determining whether or not they stay up. Bringing in Shelvey would not be a wise move.
