Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has revealed on the Beautiful Game Podcast that Allan Saint-Maximin gets fined every day in training.

Saint-Maximin has quickly become renowned as Newcastle’s most dangerous attacking player after his move to St. James’ Park last summer.

And Shelvey says that he has been so impressed with the Frenchman’s impact so far, even if he might not be the most disciplined of his teammates in training.

“He gets fined every day, because he’s got earphones in and stuff like that,” Shelvey said.

“He’s one of them if he wasn’t that good then you’d have the hump with him, but because he’s that good you don’t want to have a go at him.

“He’s been outstanding for me you get your head up and I’m just thinking ‘get the ball to him and let him dribble round 20 players’.

“He’s so quick and raw. He’s improved a lot defensively and that’s just going to make him even better. I can’t speak highly enough of him, honestly.”

Saint-Maximin has been absolultey vital for Newcastle this season, as his pace and dribbling skill has pushed the side up the pitch.

Steve Bruce has tended to ensure that Newcastle are compact and sit deep.

That tactic can leave their strikers looking isolated, with Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron tasked with ensuring that they carry the ball up the pitch to get Newcastle out of danger.

Saint-Maximin still has work to do on his end product, but the 22-year-old looks like one of the most exciting talents that has been at St. James’ Park in recent memory.

The former Nice man has three goals and four assists in 21 Newcastle appearances this term, which represents a decent return for his first campaign in English football.
