Newcastle United and West Ham United are reportedly keen on Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

According to La Provence, Newcastle United and West Ham United are both interested in signing Marseille midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa this summer.

Zambo Anguissa, 22, joined Marseille from French rivals Reims in 2015, and he has become a key player for Marseille having racked up nearly 100 appearances during his time with the club.

The Cameroon international may not be particularly creative or attack-minded, but he has proven himself as a strong and imposing defensive midfielder, showing great tackling and intercepting ability.

It’s now believed that Newcastle and West Ham are joining the race for his signature, having seen West Brom already fail with a €15million (£13million) bid for the midfielder, with much more money needed to tempt Marseille into a deal.

One player who may well be impacted by any move for Zambo Anguissa is Jonjo Shelvey, given his ties to both clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Newcastle ace hasn’t always been at the top of his game this season, and whilst he impressed against Manchester United last time out, Rafael Benitez bringing in another midfielder could suggest that the Magpies are open to selling Shelvey.

The Sun reported last month that West Ham were keen to land Shelvey as David Moyes looked to boost his midfield options, and the Hammers figure to be keen again this summer, potentially offering Shelvey a move to his boyhood club.

However, if West Ham win the race for Zambo Anguissa, that would surely end any hopes of Shelvey making his move to East London, meaning the Englishman may well prove to be a major part of Zambo Anguissa’s situation this summer.
