Kuqi played for Ipswich Town across three separate spells.

Shefki Kuqi of Ipswich celebrates his goal during the Coca Cola League Championship match between Ipswich Town and Sheffield United at Portman Road on November 2, 2004 in Ipswich, England.

Shefki Kuqi has shot to the top of the betting to become Ipswich Town’s next manager.

Kuqi, who began the week as a 10/1 outsider with bookmaker Sky Bet, is now 11/8 to succeed Mick McCarthy at Portman Road – leapfrogging Wigan Athletic’s Paul Cook (4/1).

The former Finland international enjoyed two successful years at Ipswich in the early-mid 2000s and returned for a brief loan spell in 2008.

He has since turned to management, but is approaching a year out of work after leaving FC Inter Turku – the third club he has bossed.

Ex Arsenal player Sol Campbell looks on during the Emirates FA Cup Final between Arsenal and Chelsea at Wembley Stadium on May 27, 2017 in London, England.

Somewhat intriguingly, Sol Campbell is only 10/1 to be Ipswich manager, despite reports which claim the former England defender is set to be interviewed by Town (Telegraph).

Campbell is currently third in the running, ahead of Danny Cowley, Frank Lampard and Tony Mowbray (all 12/1).

Lincoln City boss Cowley signed a new long-term deal with the Imps on Thursday.

Could Kuqi become Ipswich manager?
