While in charge of Swansea City, Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk was keen to snap up Steven Fletcher.
Monk was appointed as Wednesday’s new boss and Fletcher’s form is likely to be crucial to his success.
The Owls forward has featured in every single one of Wednesday’s league games so far this season, and has a credible goalscoring record.
Fletcher has hit three goals in six games, but Monk will be hoping he can get the 32-year-old hitting the back of the net even more frequently.
Fletcher possesses a clinical finish and is a handful for defenders in the air, even if he isn’t the most mobile.
It seems likely that Fletcher will continue to play a key role at Hillsborough, as Monk is known to be a big fan.
The Owls boss wanted Fletcher at Swansea City, while they were in the Premier League, but failed to get a deal over the line.
And Monk will be delighted to be taking over a Wednesday side, where Fletcher seems to be on top of his game, as the experienced forward has found the back of the net twice in his last two appearances.
With Monk taking charge of Wednesday for the first time at the weekend against Huddersfield Town, he will be hoping that Fletcher keeps up his scoring run.
And if Monk can get Fletcher to perform to a high level then Wednesday should be well placed to trouble for a top six place this term.
