Keiren Westwood reflects on Sheffield Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Leeds United in the Championship and on saving shots from Mirco Antenucci.

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood has played down his ‘duel’ with Mirco Antenucci in the Yorkshire derby against Leeds United on Saturday.

The Italian striker was very lively for the Whites in the Championship clash at Elland Road, especially in the first half.

Antenucci, who moved to Leeds from Ternana in the summer, was causing the Wednesday defence problems and had a total of three attempts during his 80-minute stay on the pitch.

Two of those shots were on target, but Westwood was up to the task. It was his performance between the posts that saw Wednesday pick up a 1-1 draw and earned him the ‘Man of the Match’ award.

Following the match, the 29-year-old was asked by Sky Sports about the duel with Antenucci, to which he replied: ‘As long as I keep the ball out of the goal, it doesn’t matter who shoots’.

Reflecting on the contest, Westwood stated: ‘They probably deserved (the goal) in the end. We were disappointed because we were 1-0 up. It was a good derby game and (the final score was a) fair reflection (of the match)’.

Westwood later told Wednesday’s official website: ‘I am happy with the way I am playing and pleased with the saves I made at Leeds but disappointed that we didn’t win the game. But it’s a good draw from a derby game and we can go into the international break with another point on the board’.

Chris Maguire gave Wednesday the lead in the 52^nd minute, but Giuseppe Bellusci rescued a point for Leeds with a close-range effort 11 minutes from the full-time interval.
