Sheffield Wednesday’s Joey Pelupessy was given a rousing reception by fans of his former employers Heracles Almelo on Sunday.

The Dutch midfielder returned to the club he left for Wednesday in January, to witness their final home game of the season against FC Utrecht.

An Almelo native, Pelupessy began his career at FC Twente before returning to his hometown team, whom he later captained, in 2014.

And it is clear the Heracles faithful – and their players – still think highly of the 24-year-old, as evidenced by the following posts from their official Twitter account.

Heracles went 2-0 up inside four minutes at the Polman Stadion, but shipped two late goals to draw their penultimate league fixture.

John Stegeman’s team, who face relegation-threatened Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday, can still finish between 10th and 13th in Holland’s top flight.

Pelupessy is proving an equally popular member of Wednesday’s squad, for whom he has played 18 times under fellow Dutchman Jos Luhukay – scoring one goal and creating another.
