A family’s quest to raise funds for a “much needed” room and equipment that can meet the sensory needs of their severely autistic son appears to have been boosted by Sheffield Wednesday forward Fernando Forestieri.

A £500 donation – which is 10 per cent of their target – has been made in the name of Forestieri, who is recovering from a knee operation in the Spanish capital Madrid.

Matt Dent, who is a Sheffield Wednesday supporter, has taken to Twitter this week to raise awareness for his nephew, Jack Knowles, who has has a Sensory Processing Disorder and is described as “non verbal” and “extremely active”.

In response to the generous donation, which is accompanied by the phrase “Good luck, mate. FF” in Spanish, Dent posted:

Forestieri angered some Sheffield Wednesday supporters earlier in the campaign, after he was handed a two-match internal suspension amid rumours of training ground indiscipline.

But he appears to be back in the good books after his alleged gesture this week.
