Sheffield Wednesday have made a positive start to the campaign as they look to better last season’s achievement.
Sheffield Wednesday would perhaps be forgiven for making a slow start to this season after coming so close to promotion last term, but as they prepare to return to action following the international break, it is fair to say that the Owls have put themselves in a solid position to perhaps go one better this year.
Wednesday are currently 10th in the Championship, just two points off the play-off places. But with seven wins and six defeats, it is safe to say that it has been an eventful first few months for Carlos Carvalhal.

The campaign started in brilliant fashion for the Owls as a late Fernando Forestieri strike led them to a 1-0 win over recently-relegated and promotion favourites Aston Villa at Hillsborough.

Their first defeat would have come as a surprise as they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Cambridge United. The League Two side came from behind to score a winner two minutes from the end of extra-time.

Their second league game pitted them against another of the sides that had been relegated. While the Owls secured another clean sheet against Norwich, they were unable to bag the three points and had to settle for a goalless draw.

After a disappointing loss away at Burton, Wednesday lost a Yorkshire derby at home against a Leeds side that were still awaiting their first victory going into the game.

After a run of just one defeat in the following five games, the Owls came away from Blackburn with a narrow 1-0 win. Summer signing Steven Fletcher bagged the only goal after 22 minutes.

Their unbeaten run would end in their next game however, as high-flying Brighton came away from Hillsborough with a 2-1 win.

Sheffield Wednesday would come out on top when they faced the side that had surprisingly set the pace early on in the campaign. A Forestieri penalty proved to be the difference against Huddersfield.
Since that result, the Owls have won one, drawn one, but lost their last two, so will be hoping that they can get a positive result in their next game, which sees them travel to face Fulham.
