Middlesbrough are believed to be interested in signing Keiren Westwood from Sheffield Wednesday.
According to a report in today’s printed edition of The Sun [page 61], Middlesbrough are set to make a £3 million bid for Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, but there is no way that the Owls should even consider accepting the offer.
Boro are keen to bring in Westwood, but for that price Wednesday should be looking to keep the Republic of Ireland international around.
Although Westwood is now 32, and has little monetary value to the Owls if they keep him around much longer, due to his advancing years, he is too important to their team to lose.
Westwood has been one of the most reliable stoppers in the Championship over a number of seasons.
And if Wednesday were to sell Westwood it would be almost impossible to bring in another goalkeeper of his standard to Hillsborough.
The Owls have narrowly missed out on promotion twice, and if they are to get over the line it will be important to keep their key players around this summer.
Westwood certainly fits into that category, and there is simply no way that Carlos Carvalhal’s side should be considering doing a deal with Middlesbrough for their number one goalkeeper.
