Both Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United are aiming to finish in the Championship playoffs this season.

Leeds United are going strong in the Championship at the moment and are genuine contenders for the playoffs this season.

The West Yorkshire outfit are currently fourth in the standings with 32 points from 19 matches.

Garry Monk’s side are playing well and are getting positive results, and the fans are hugely optimistic.

However, Leeds must not get complacent and should do all they can to maintain their current level until the end of the season.

The Championship is a notoriously tricky domestic league in which a couple of bad results could be hugely detrimental to a side’s hopes of finishing in the playoffs.

The Whites have not featured in the Premier League since 2004 and have become also-rans in the Championship in recent years.

This time it is certainly different, but the Whites must reinforce their squad in the January transfer window and push on.

A top-two finish in the Championship this season is probably beyond Leeds, who have to make sure that they end up in the playoffs this campaign.

Adding to the quality of the squad in January is only going to enhance their chances of finishing in the top six of the Championship this season.

Moreover, Leeds should learn a lesson from what is happening at Sheffield Wednesday.

Wednesday ended up in the playoffs last season and reached as far as the final.

The Owls’ success last season came as a surprise, and they were expected to kick on this campaign and aim for automatic promotion.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side are sixth in the league table at the moment and are genuine playoff contenders, but they are unlikely to achieve automatic promotion to the Premier League.

It is not easy to start all over again after reaching the playoff final, and Wednesday have not found it easy this season.

Leeds are riding on the wave of optimism, and they must do all they can to earn a playoff spot and then get promoted.

It is going to be very hard to start all over again next season, and the West Yorkshire outfit should know that right now.
