Talented teenager George Hirst struck a hat-trick for Sheffield Wednesday’s under-18s at the weekend to give them a 3-0 win over Leeds United.

Hirst, 17, is the son of former Owls striker David Hirst, and is tipped to break into the club’s first team before long.

He demonstrated his talent with three goals in the clash between the two young sides, with the opponents particularly notable apart from simply being a local rivalry.

The Daily Mail reported back in February of this year that Leeds United were among the teams interested in signing Hirst, with West Ham and Chelsea also interested.

Hirst’s goals show just why Leeds wanted to snap him up, and why Sheffield Wednesday are fortunate to have him on board.

The young striker signed a permanent contract with the Owls in late March, his first professional deal, which runs until 2018.
