The Owls midfielder, who has made 115 appearances for the club, is unhappy with the “unfair” scrutiny of the manager, blaming the team instead.

Criticism of Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay is “unfair”, according to midfielder Adam Reach.

The Dutchman has found himself under intense scrutiny in recent weeks following a run of just one victory in nine Championship matches.

As a result, the Owls have fallen from sixth in the table to 17th, and a number of fans turned on Luhukay during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Rotherham United.

According to The Star, supporters were chanting ‘we want Jos out’ and ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ in the second half.

A follow-up report by the Yorkshire Evening Post on Monday claimed that the Wednesday board is giving the 55-year-old one more game to save his job, the weekend clash away at Swansea City.

In the wake of criticism, Reach – who has made 115 appearances for the club since 2016 – has given a candid interview with The Star, exonerating his manager by saying that the players are under-performing rather than their boss.

“I think it (criticism of Luhukay) is unfair,” said the 25-year-old. “We are all under-performing as players. That’s not the manager’s fault that we are not giving performances like we have done in the last couple of years since I have been here.

“At the end of the day, it’s not about tactics or formations, it’s about working harder than the other team, winning your headers and tackles. We didn’t do that against Blackburn. We did it better (against Rotherham) but still not good enough.”

After Swansea, Wednesday face Preston North End, Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion before the end of the year.

If Luhukay does get handed his P45 in the coming weeks, The Sun on Sunday (print edition, 09/12, page 57) claim that Wednesday are considering putting Steve Bruce in charge.
