According to Tuttomercatoweb, a Sheffield-based Championship club is among those interested in signing Genoa’s Aleandro Rosi – although it does not specify whether it’s Wednesday or United.

HITC Sport takes a closer look…

Who is Aleandro Rosi?

A versatile Italian right-back, currently on the books of Serie A outfit Genoa. Rosi has also played for Roma, Parma and Fiorentina, and is out of contract at the end of the campaign.

Why it could be Sheffield Wednesday that wants him…

Rosi has spent much of this season in a more advanced role on the right of midfield, a position in which Wednesday are short of natural options. The 30-year-old is fond of a cross, which would tie in well with the Owls’ approach under Carlos Carvalhal this season. A number of overseas players have moved to Hillsborough during Carvalhal’s reign, although none have arrived directly from Italy – yet.

Why it could be Sheffield United…

Rosi’s role this season is perhaps more akin to that of United wing-backs Kieron Freeman/George Baldock, than an out-and-out right-midfielder, with Genoa favouring a 3-4-2-1 system. Freeman is currently sidelined for the Blades and while signing overseas player would be an unprecedented step for Chris Wilder’s side, it could become more commonplace the more they progress. The former Italy Under-19 international – who stands above six-feet tall and can also play centre-back if required – could certainly handle himself in a footballing side that is also not frightened of a battle.
