Jose Semedo has claimed that he had several clubs, including two in the Championship, after him this summer before he decided to sign a new contract at Sheffield Wednesday, the Sheffield Star reports.
Despite playing fairly regularly during his first four seasons at Hillsborough, the last campaign was a frustrating one for the 31-year-old as he made just 10 league appearances for the Owls.
Nevertheless, the Star reports that he has now signed a new one-year deal with Carlos Carvalhal’s side. And he explained that had he not been offered a contract, he would have had plenty of options to pick from elsewhere.
“There were four clubs in England,” he told the Star.
“Two were in the Championship and there was also a club interested in the second division of Spain.
“But I always had my mind set on staying here.”
Semedo’s desire to stay at Wednesday and contribute in any way he can as they try to mount another promotion push, despite the fact that he probably knows that his game-time will surely be limited once again, arguably highlights why Carvalhal wanted to keep him at the club for another year.
While he is not able to contribute on the pitch as much as he would like, his attitude will inevitably create a better atmosphere amongst the team as they will know that if they are not pulling their weight, there is a player willing to give everything to the cause waiting in the wings, and that could be just as important as any on-field contribution he makes this season.
