Sheffield Wednesday were credited with interest in Amaral earlier in the summer.

Sheffield Wednesday-linked winger Joao Amaral appears to have ended speculation linking him with a move to Hillsborough after signing for Lech Poznan.
Wednesday were credited with interest in Amaral earlier in the summer by Jornal Record, although the trail had gone cold in recent weeks.
And it was reported by A Bola last week that either Poznan or Chaves was to be the 26-year-old’s destination, rather than Hillsborough.
Amaral scored nine goals and set up four for Vitoria Setubal last season to earn himself a move to Benfica, which now appears to have been little more than a money-making exercise for the Portuguese giants.

Whether or not Sheffield Wednesday’s interest in the player was ever serious remains to be seen, although it is possible the Owls’ would have been hamstrung either way as they continue their efforts to balance the books at Hillsborough this summer.
The Yorkshire club’s financial situation has already seen them miss out on rumoured top target Frederico Venancio (pictured above), who is a former teammate of Amaral.
