The Owls fan favourite has extended his Hillsborough contract ahead of the 2019-20 Championship season.

A number of Sheffield Wednesday fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Keiren Westwood’s social media post following the news that he has signed a new contract at the Championship club.

On Tuesday, the Republic of Ireland international and Hillsborough fan favourite penned a new two-year deal at the Yorkshire club, as confirmed by their official website and social media channels.

The 34-year-old began his career with Manchester City before joining Carlisle United, and then went on to have spells with Coventry City and Sunderland before joining the Owls in 2014, during which he has been a superb servant of the club.

Westwood has made 164 appearances in total for Wednesday and has won the club’s player of the year award in two of his five seasons at the club, while also showing his resilience last term as he fought back from falling out of favour under Steve Bruce’s predecessor Jos Luhukay.

Naturally the Owls fanbase was pleased and some fans praised him on Twitter:

According to The Star, Westwood’s previous deal was understood to have been expiring this summer, with reported interest in his services coming from the likes of Barnsley and Huddersfield Town.
