Hirst is out of contract at Sheffield Wednesday next summer, and has been linked with moves to Leicester City and Leeds United.

George Hirst was again absent as Sheffield Wednesday’s Under-23s beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday.
Hirst is regarded as one of the brightest prospects to come through Wednesday’s academy in some time, somehow coping with the expectation that comes with being the son of a club legend – in his case David Hirst.

But the 18-year-old has yet to feature for Neil Thompson’s team in a competitive fixture this season, despite being a key member of the side which won the Professional Development League last term and with no injury reported.
Given Hirst’s contract up at the end of this season, and talks over a renewal said to have reached stalemate, some Owls supporters are starting to fear the worst about his future at Hillsborough.

And while he has had international commitments to balance, recent interest from the likes of Leicester City and Leeds United certainly hasn’t helped.
