However, Wednesday fans were never keen on the idea of Downing playing at Hillsborough.
And most Owls fans are pleased that Downing has now gone elsewhere.
Wednesday have had a fairly quiet summer so far, but are thought to be in the market for new additions.
Downing’s influence at Middlesbrough had dropped over the past season, but he still has a lot of qualities to be a threat at Championship level and should make a solid addition to Blackburn’s squad.
