Sheffield Wednesday’s biggest obstacle in their bid to bring Frederico Venancio back to Hillsborough is competition from rivals clubs, notably Leeds United, according to A Bola.

Venancio impressed during Wednesday’s resurgent spell at the end of last season, and both he and Owls manager Jos Luhukay have expressed a desire to conclude a permanent transfer this summer.

The Sheffield Star reported last month that a return to S6 is the 25-year-old’s preference, while his parent club, Vitoria de Setubal, will allow him to leave if their £800,000 asking price is met.

There appears to have been little progress since then, however, causing some Sheffield Wednesday fans to grow antsy over yesterday’s Leeds speculation.

Leeds were one of the first English clubs to be credited with interest in Venancio, along with Reading and Derby County ahead of last summer’s transfer window, courtesy of the Sun.

However, it was Wednesday who ultimately landed the Portuguese on a season-long loan.
