Joao failed to make a positive impact after coming on for Sheffield Wednesday against Bristol City.

Many have called for his inclusion for weeks, but Lucas Joao’s cameo for Sheffield Wednesday against Bristol City on Saturday failed to meet the expectations of those.
Joao, who had seen only an hour of senior football since scoring against Sheffield United in late September, came on for the final 29 minutes at Hillsborough.
In fairness, the left-footed centre forward spent much of that in an awkward right-wing role, as his Wednesday teammates grew torn between sticking to their usual patient approach and hoisting balls skyward for the Portuguese to either chase or challenge for against one of the Championship’s most aerially dominant defences.
Needless to say, the winning goal they sought failed to materialised.

On numerous occasions, Joao was caught trying to do too much in congested areas, and on one he sent a reverse pass over the head of Kieran Lee as the midfielder awaited it to feet in what would have been a threatening position, much to the Owls fans’ frustrations.
As far as they’re concerned, it may be a while until Joao is coveted again.
Here’s what they’ve been saying on social media…
Should Sheffield Wednesday fans give Joao the benefit of the doubt?
