Sheffield Wednesday supporters have suggested that they are happy to see Sean Clare depart, if he doesn’t want to stay with them.

Clare looks to be one of the best prospects at Wednesday, but the Owls are struggling to agree a contract with the academy graduate.

Clare has been offered fresh terms to stay at Hillsborough, but progress is slow.

And with the midfielder’s contract due to expire at the end of the season, Jos Luhukay admits that he cannot force Clare to stay.

“It’s a decision that Sean must make himself,” Luhukay said to the Sheffield Star.

“It is not frustrating but we are trying to plan for the new season. Should Sean stay with us, we know what we are doing. If he doesn’t stay with us, we must look for a player in that position for the new season.”

Clare shot to prominence this term, after a series of credible displays in the first-team.

But Wednesday fans feel that Clare has already got too big for his boots, if he feels that leaving Hillsborough would be the best option for him.

Despite Owls fans suggestions that Clare could leave, losing the youngster would be a blow for Luhukay.

There have been suggestions that Clare could have played an important role for Wednesday next season, but with his future in doubt – it may be that a new central midfielder is on the Owls’ shopping list in the summer.
