The Owls manager has been dismissed following a run of one win in 10 games and some fans of the struggling Championship club could not contain their glee.
Many Sheffield Wednesday fans will no doubt have been breathing a sigh of relief following the club’s announcement of Jos Luhukay’s departure.
The 55-year-old Dutchman took over the Owls in January but has failed to deliver positive results, winning just 16 and losing 19 of his 48 matches in charge (Transfermarkt).
Indeed, Wednesday currently sit a lowly 18th in the Championship table and, with just one win in their last 10 games, alarm bells seemed to be ringing for many fans ahead of the busy festive period.
“I would like to place on record my thanks to Jos for the efforts he has given,” chairman Dejphon Chansiri said. “But now is the right time for both parties to move on and I wish him all the very best for the future.”

Luhukay’s departure comes two days after the Wednesday chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, told a fan forum that he would be listening to offers for the club.
The Thai businessman’s announcement followed the club being placed under a transfer embargo between April and August of this year for breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.
Following Luhukay’s sacking, Owls coach Lee Bullen has been put in caretaker charge of the first team for Saturday’s visit of Preston North End to Hillsborough.
