Sheffield Wednesday fans react to Jordan Thorniley’s Bolton display

The Sheffield Wednesday defender has now kept clean sheets in each of his last two starts.

Sheffield Wednesday recorded only their second Championship clean sheet of the season against Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday – each of which have arrived with Jordan Thorniley in the side.

The former Everton trainee was making his 25th appearance in Wednesday colours, but turned in another assured performance which belied his relative inexperience.

Deployed in his less favoured left-back role, Thorniley made the most clearances (11) and the joint-most tackles (5) of any player involved at Hillsborough.

Nevertheless, some Sheffield Wednesday fans fear that, having started just four of their side’s last nine fixtures, the 22-year-old could still miss out against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Sheffield Wednesday struggled to convince against Bolton, in a game devoid of any real quality, but claimed a much-needed three points thanks to a second-half header from Thorniley’s defensive colleague Tom Lees.

The result ended the Owls’ run of six games without a win, which yielded five defeats and left them 18th in the standings – four places below their new position.
