The 28-year-old hitman arrived at Wednesday with a big reputation to live up to last year but seven goals in 47 Championship outings should indicate that he has been a massive disappointment.
The former Middlesbrough hitman sunk to a new loan in the Owls’ 2-1 defeat at home to Ipswich Town on Tuesday when manager Jos Luhukay withdrew him at half time for Lucas Joao.
Only one player has missed more goalscoring chances than Rhodes this season – Britt Assombalonga with 15, three more than the Sheffield Wednesday man – and fans of the Hillsborough club look pessimistic over the prospect of seeing the ex-Blackburn marksman come good.
Luhukay’s side are only seven points clear of the bottom three and, with 10 games to go, it isn’t impossible that Sheffield Wednesday could get sucked into a relegation battle.
If that happens, you do wonder whether the likes of Rhodes are brimming with enough confidence to fire them to safety.
