Premier League trio Crystal Palace, West Brom and Brighton are hoping to tempt Sheffield Wednesday into selling Gary Hooper.
When you consider that Chris Wood and Britt Assombalonga cost £15 million this summer, Sheffield Wednesday would be within their rights for demanding an eight-figure sum for the in-form Gary Hooper.
Only Bobby Reid of Bristol City and Hull’s Jarrod Bowen can match Hooper’s seven Championship goals so far in 2017/18. In fact, the 29-year-old has already outstripped his tally from the whole of last season – with 12 games to spare.
It’s little surprise, then, that his form has caught the eye of several Premier League clubs. The Sun claims that West Brom, Brighton and a Crystal Palace side without a top flight goal to their name this season are hoping to land Hooper in January.
Wednesday fans were probably expecting a flurry of Premier League interest in arguably the second tier’s most in-form forward. Though they are a little more taken aback by reports that the former Celtic goal-machine could be available for as little as £6 million.
Just to put that in context, Middlesbrough paid the same fee to sign Rudy Gestede in January. Therefore, Owls supporters are united in demanding far more for a striker who deserves a second chance in the top flight after a brief taste of life in the big league’s at Norwich City.
Considering that Palace will be doomed without a prayer unless they find a goalscorer and fast, however, The Eagles should even consider paying double.
