Sheffield Wednesday hammered Norwich City 5-1 at Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon, as the Owls tightened their grip on a play-off place.

Having lost at Leeds United last weekend, fans have been concerned that Wednesday are wobbling at the crucial stage of the season, with Fulham breathing down their necks in the race for sixth place.

Saturday’s clash with Norwich was subsequently crucial, and Carlos Carvalhal’s men raced into a 2-0 lead as Ross Wallace and Jordan Rhodes found the net, before Cameron Jerome pulled a goal back for Norwich before half time – only for Morgan Fox to restore Wednesday’s two-goal lead shortly after.

Rhodes grabbed his second and Wednesday’s fourth in the second half, and Fernando Forestieri sealed a 5-1 win just past the hour mark.

Such a huge win has come as a major boost to Wednesday as they chase a play-off spot for a second consecutive season, and fans took to Twitter during and after the game to comment on the display.

Whilst Rhodes and Forestieri grabbed the headlines with the goals, but striker Sam Winnall was hailed by supporters on Twitter for a superb performance.

A January signing from Yorkshire rivals Barnsley, striker Winnall partnered Rhodes in attack, and was praised for putting in huge effort, opening up room for other players to thrive, with fans urging manager Carvalhal to stick with Rhdoes and Winnall up top.

Other fans felt that a goal was all that was missing from Winnall’s performance, adding that he is already proving what a bargain he is following his recent move to Hillsborough.
