The Owls’ longest-serving player is now tied to the Hillsborough side until 2019.

No Sheffield Wednesday defender has a better record than Liam Palmer when it comes to conceding league goals this season.
In 597 minutes of Championship action, Palmer has conceded just six times – which equates to one goal every 99-and-a-half minutes.
| Team | Goals Conceded | Goals Conceded MINS | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Liam Palmer | Sheff Wed | 6 | 99.5 | 9 | 597 |
| Tom Lees | Sheff Wed | 12 | 94.92 | 13 | 1,139 |
| Sam Hutchinson | Sheff Wed | 11 | 92.73 | 12 | 1,020 |
| Daniel Pudil | Sheff Wed | 11 | 81.82 | 11 | 900 |
| Jack Hunt | Sheff Wed | 9 | 75.11 | 8 | 676 |
| Glenn Loovens | Sheff Wed | 4 | 60.25 | 5 | 241 |
In contrast, fellow Wednesday full-backs Daniel Pudil and Jack Hunt have gone, on average, just 81.82 and 75.11 minutes respectively, without letting in a goal.

You would think then, that the announcement of a contract for the 25-year-old – a boyhood Wednesdayite fast-approaching his 150th appearance in blue and white – would go down well within the Owls’ fanbase.
Well that’s not strictly the case…
Here is how Wednesday fans reacted to the news on Twitter:
Palmer, who hails from nearby Worksop, has risen through the ranks at Hillsborough, making his first-team debut during the 2010-11 campaign.
After a successful spell on loan to Tranmere Rovers two years later, Palmer finally began to establish himself during Stuart Gray’s reign as manager and has remained a valued member of Carlos Carvalhal’s squad.
