The Owls full-back had a night to forget in Staffordshire.
Sheffield Wednesday failed to learn from last season’s mistakes, losing 3-1 against Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday.
The Owls lost all three of their away fixtures against newly-promoted sides last term and continued where they left off in Satffordshire, undoing their encouraging start to the new season.
There were, of course, mitigating circumstances. Key defender Tom Lees, named as captain in the absence of centre-back partner Glenn Loovens, joined the Dutchman on the sidelines pre-match, while his replacement Jose Semedo, a central midfielder by trade, failed to make it to half-time.
That saw left-back Daniel Pudil shifted to an unfamiliar role at the heart of defence, with right-back Liam Palmer awkwardly filling in on the left.
However, it was on the other side of the back four that Wednesday were caused the most problems by Burton. In fact, all three of their goals were finished from a similar area, which should have been manned by Owls full-back Jack Hunt.
The 25-year-old was beaten by his man for both of Burton’s first-half goals, while Lloyd Dyer’s strike arrived via a deflection off Hunt’s right foot in the build up.
