Sheffield Wednesday won for the first time in five matches at local rivals Rotherham United on Tuesday, making an immediate return to the Championship’s top six.

The Owls welcomed back two of their key players – Gary Hooper and Ross Wallace – at the New York Stadium, kept their first clean sheet 10 outings, and saw recalled striker Steven Fletcher end a four-month drought in front of goal.

One would assume, therefore, that all is well again at Hillsborough? Well… not quite.

Despite Rotherham’s status as one of the Championship’s worst sides ever, the hosts were, for the most part, perhaps the better of the two teams, with Wednesday again far from convincing.

And there’ll be one or two Owls players checking their Twitter mentions with apprehension this morning, not least the club captain:

In fairness, Loovens, who suffered a knock ahead of last month’s international break, appeared to have hurt himself again on Tuesday, as he attempted a clearance.

And those who slagged him off are advised to be careful what they wish for with league leaders Newcastle United next up for Carlos Carvalhal’s side.

What did you make of Loovens’ performance?
