If Thursday’s win against Sunderland is anything to go by, then the future of Sheffield Wednesday may be brighter than many envisaged.

The Owls eased in the end to a 2-0 victory over a side tipped to walk the division directly below theirs this season, with a team packed with emerging talent.

Alex Hunt, Matt Penney and Jack Lee each made their competitive bows for Wednesday, as Frederik Nielsen, Connor Kirby and Joe Wildsmith built on the experience they gained last season.

But the youngsters impressing is not so good news for everyone, with the experienced Keiren Westwood and David Jones again overlooked by the Owls despite being fit to play.

And according to some Sheffield Wednesday supporters, the win on Wearside could (and should) spell the end for one veteran who did make Jos Luhukay’s starting XI – George Boyd.
