Sheffield United last night confirmed the signing of striker Caolan Lavery from rivals Sheffield Wednesday, via their official website.
While Lavery is not the first player to switch directly between the two clubs – the Sheffield Star produced a comprehensive list of those to do so earlier this year, it is not a common occurrence.

The rivalry between the two sides has dampened slightly in recent seasons due to United being a division below Wednesday.
With the Blades in League One and the Owls in the Championship, Wednesday do not have to worry immediately about Lavery coming back to haunt them.
Lavery, 23, came through Sheffield Wednesday’s academy and made more than 30 first team appearances for the club, but barely got a look in under Carlos Carvalhal last season.
With Wednesday signing Steven Fletcher this summer, competition for places has increased, and it was in Lavery’s best interest to move on, even if his choice of club will raise eyebrows.
