Sasso leaves Sheffield Wednesday with his 12-month deal set to expire.
Former Sheffield Wednesday defender Vincent Sasso
Sheffield Wednesday defender Vincent Sasso has returned to Portugal, joining Liga NOS outfit Belenenses on a two-year deal, The Star reports.
The Frenchman signed for the Owls on a permanent basis last summer upon his release by SC Braga, who had loaned him to Carlos Carvalhal’s side the previous campaign.
However, his contract was due to expire at the end of the month and despite reports his deal contained a one-year extension option in Wednesday’s favour, Sasso will not return to Hillsborough next season.
Regardless of Sasso’s departure, Wednesday were already expected to add to their defensive line this summer, with a quartet of centre-halves Sean Morrison [Cardiff City], Grant Hanley [Newcastle United], Daniel Ayala [Middlesbrough] and Richard Keogh [Derby County] linked in recent weeks.

Sasso was never a regular under Carvalhal, making 31 appearances in two seasons with the Owls, and continues to divide the Hillsborough faithful even after his exit.
