Sheffield Wednesday fans are reacting to Sam Winnall’s latest Instagram post, in which the Owls striker confirmed his return to Hillsborough after the expiry of his loan spell at Derby County
Winnall scored six goals in 17 games for the Rams before a serious knee injury brought a premature end to his season in February.
But rather than cutting his spell short there and then, the 27-year-old remained at Derby to undergo rehabilitation and made no secret of his desire to remain at Pride Park next season.
However, the departure of Gary Rowett – Winnall’s former Burton Albion colleague and the man who brought him to Pride Park – looks to have dented those hopes.
And it is therefore little surprise to see the 27-year-old changing his tune, stating that he is ‘really looking forward to a fresh start back at Hillsborough and fully focused on helping the club be successful’ – and even reinstating the name Sheffield Wednesday to his Twitter bio.
But while some Owls fans are ready to welcome him back to Hillsborough – where there is already an abundance of strikers – others aren’t buying it…
