Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood has been named in the Republic of Ireland’s provisional squad to face Turkey later this month.

Westwood has not appeared for Wednesday since early December, due to a groin injury, and his return date continues to be pushed back by the Owls.

And while Ireland’s 30-man party will be trimmed down to 23 before their trip to Turkey two weeks on Friday – with at least one goalkeeper expected to be culled – many Wednesday fans think they can smell a rat.

Sheffield Wednesday had 13 players missing, due to either injury or a lack of fitness, for Tuesday’s defeat against Ipswich Town, a problem which has plagued manager Jos Luhukay throughout his two-month reign.

And this is not the first – nor will it likely be the last – time a conspiracy theory has surfaced, especially with Luhukay reluctant to discuss off-field issues when questioned by the media.
