Sheffield Wednesday are reported to have paid £3 million for Abdi – which, if accurate, equates to around £130,000 per appearance.

Sheffield Wednesday fans are reacting on Twitter to reports linking Owls midfielder Almen Abdi with a return to his native Switzerland.

Newspaper Tagesanzeiger claimed earlier this week that Abdi’s first club, FC Zurich, are interested in the signing the 31-year-old, who wants to return to his homeland next season.

Wednesday are said to have paid around £3 million for Abdi, who was a key member of the Watford side promoted from to the Premier League in 2015. However, the Yorkshire side have been rewarded with just one goal in 23 appearances across two campaigns.

Abdi is thought to be among the highest earners at Hillsborough, where finances are known to be tight. And it appears his exit would come as a relief to many Owls fans.

Here’s what they’re saying…

@philcooper15: So Abdi is off to Switzerland?, presumably it’s to that self assisted dying place then ?, seeing as he’s a ******* wreck

@stevenowls If Abdi ***** off to Switzerland then that would be absolutely marvelous stole a living from #swfc

Abdi has played just 21 minutes of football under the Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay, who was hired by the Owls in mid-January.
