Sheffield Wednesday defender Daniel Pudil has told the BBC’s Rob Staton that he hopes to sign a new contract at Hillsborough.

Pudil is in the final year of the two-year deal he signed in July 2016, after a successful spell on loan from Watford.

The 32-year-old had a spell out of the Wednesday side earlier in the campaign, but has returned as an almost ever-present under new Owls boss Jos Luhukay.

Since then, Pudil has taken advantage of injuries to first-choice centre-backs Tom Lees and Joost van Aken to nail down position at the heart of Luhukay’s defence – one with which he was not especially familiar.

Despite that though, Sheffield Wednesday supporters appear to be split over the prospect of a new deal for the Czech Republic international.
