Alan Pardew has been bizarrely linked with Sheffield Wednesday.
Ex-Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew
Sheffield Wednesday are busy preparing for their play-off semi-final second leg against Huddersfield Town, but speculation surrounds the future of manager Carlos Carvalhal.
Carvalhal was the surprise choice to take the Wednesday job in the summer of 2015 after three years out of management, but he has impressed in the Hillsborough dugout.
After losing to Hull City in last year’s Championship play-off final, Carvalhal has again guided Wednesday into the promotion mix, and picked up a 0-0 draw against Huddersfield in the first leg of their semi-final on Sunday.
Carvalhal’s exploits appear to have triggered interest, with The Independent reporting last week that Hull, Southampton and Watford are all interested, but he could even be replaced by Wednesday regardless of their promotion fortunes.
Former Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew
The Daily Mail claim that Wednesday may decide to move on from Carvalhal, and in what would be a shock move, they could turn to Alan Pardew as his successor.
Pardew has been out of work since losing his job with Crystal Palace in December, and the former Newcastle boss could be looking to engineer a return to football this summer, with Wednesday involved in a bizarre link.
Sheffield Wednesday Manager Carlos Carvalhal
A divisive figure throughout his time as a manager, links to Pardew have unsurprisingly sparked a major reaction from Wednesday fans, who have sent a clear message – they want Carvalhal and not Pardew.
Many feel that even if Carvalhal does leave, then Pardew isn’t the right man for the job, and that Portuguese boss Carvalhal deserves full support ahead of Wednesday’s crucial second leg clash with Huddersfield, begging the Owls board to keep him if they can and completely avoid a move for Pardew.
